Sure, he was the most wanted man in the world. Sure, he is responsible for atrocities to on par with those carried out by the worst villains in recorded history, but you have got to appreciate the man’s hair.
If you are unfamilliar with the infamous Mr. Karadzic, I direct you to Frontline’s summary:
Here is an example of “don’t hate the player, hate the game”. The game in this case is music industry as it pimped Brittney Spears. The player is Martin Sandberg who actually wrote the song “Baby One More Time”. When taken on paper, the song is a sad cry of desperation. Read the lyrics as if it were a letter written to a lost lover:
How was I supposed to know that something wasn’t right here? I shouldn’t have let you go and now you’re out of sight. Show me how you want it to be. Tell me baby because I need to know now what we’ve got. When I’m not with you I lose my mind. The reason I breathe is you. There’s nothing that I wouldn’t do. That’s not the way I planned it. How was I supposed to know? I shouldn’t have let you go. I must confess, that my loneliness is killing me now. Don’t you know I still believe that you will be here?
You can see the depth of feelings that went into their writing and I am sure that you can empathize with the personal experiences that were the basis of these words. Granted that there are many songs of this ilk, but this song has received a bad reputation due to its association with the money machine that is Ms. Spears. I feel that my point is demonstrated when you strip the “pop” from the song and present the lyrics in a soulful manner as did the UK band Travis in their VH1 Storytellers appearance:
I know what you are feeling as I felt the same way when I discovered this “pearl”…FINALLY! Finally a place to get a perl fix when I do not have time to code myself. Finally some place to commune with my peers at the alter of high level programming. When I last visited there were TWO others on the channel. Oh the fun we had.
Beyond the elation you normally experience when watching someone as they code perl, you will also observe our intrepid programmer as he battles the voice recognition included with Vista. Watch as almost every command is incorrectly interpreted by the Microsoft VR…if you can! My nerves could barely take it. You have been warned. The next step is your to make.
This is my lipdub pick of the week. I do not know the song but I love the style of this video. The director really nailed that 80′s look with the wardrobe choices and the whole video is high energy. Enjoy:
This is my new favorite Lipdub. I think this is the only way I can listen to a Rihanna song. Also, the Red Bull tank-top the guy is wearing is sweet. (Ed, if you see one like that when you are over there on business, get me one) Here it is:
This is my first post of content I have created (except for the music of course). I would call it more of a proof of concept than a true creative effort. I was just messing around with my point-n-shoot camera and Windows Movie Maker. I could have done something more compelling if I had my Mac with me, but what the hay. Have fun with it:
I heard about these guys (official or Myspace) on Net@Nite, gave them a listen and liked it. I would describe them thus: Eminem if he was geeky and had a social conscience. So here it is for your listening pleasure:
When a list of great documentaries starts with “American Movie”, you know you are in for a treat. I have already seen 4 of the 25 movies in the list, all of which are classics. I am hoping that fact is a good indicator of the quality of the other 21 selections. Anyway, here is the link to the list.
I have a real appreciation for this video. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do…
(update~Universal disabled embedding so I had to add this unofficial version which I am sure will be yanked any day now. The link to the official Weezer version is HERE.)
Here are all of the links for the videos featured in this video (most of them anyway). If you really want to geek out on this video, you should watch all of these videos first. Most of them are worth at least one view. I have added and asterisk to the videos that are worth watching in entirety or are so short it does not matter. The other ones you can just watch the first few seconds to get the idea. 2 asterisks means a “must see”.
